Ministers and Staff (continued)

Rev. Dean Vestal Interim City Missionary:
(808) 440-3026
dean-vestal@centralunionchurch.org

We are pleased to announce the selection of Dean Vestal as the new City Missionary for Central Union Church. A member of CUC since January of 2004, Dean is an ordained minister who worked closely as a volunteer with both George Harris and Deborah Ball in the Ala Moana Park ministry, and has served for the past two years on our Community Ministries Committee. He is also a regular worshiper and frequent participant in our 11:30 Contemporary Worship service.

A Missouri native, Dean's professional ministry career has included work as both a senior minister and youth minister in Missouri and Arizona, and he also worked for many years as an elementary school teacher in Arizona, where he lived for nearly thirty years before moving to Hawaii in the late spring of 2003. His artistic side served him well in his work for eight years as a florist and floral designer, and he is also an accomplished painter, a vocation he has pursued nearly full-time for the past five years. You may have seen (and perhaps purchased) some of his work at our annual Art Exhibit and Sale the past two Decembers at CUC.

Rev. Nancy Lockwood, Interim Associate Minister for Adult Education and Spiritual Nurture: (808) 440-3010
nlockwood@gmail.com

Rev. Nancy B. Lockwood, Interim Associate Minister for Adult Education and Spiritual Nurture, joined the staff of Central Union on March 1, 2005. Before marriage brought her to Hawaii, Nancy was Minister of Congregational Life at St. Lucas United Church of Christ in St. Louis, Missouri, specializing there in secondary and adult education, congregational nurture, liturgy and mission.

Nancy received her B.A. and M.A.T. at the University of Pittsburgh. She taught middle school students for many years, then "retired" when she and her husband settled in Grand Rapids, Michigan. While raising their two children, Nancy was an active community volunteer and lay leader in the Congregational Church. Ultimately, a volunteer interest pulled her back into the workforce, and she became the founding director of a hospital-based program to support and educate new parents. Her theological education followed, at McCormick Theological Seminary, and her ordination in 1996.

Nancy is a lover of books, cooking and entertaining. She enjoys gardening in Hawaii, sometimes gets back to the needlepoint rug she is making, takes control of things by dusting her dollhouse, and delights in the addition of a Hawaiian family to her own.
