MEMBERSHIP & FELLOWSHIPCentral Union Church is the largest congregation in the Hawaii Conference of the United Church of Christ. We embrace every age, gender, and race.. Although Central Union is a large church, with more than 1000 in attendance at three Sunday worship services and a recent Saturday Service at Six, our members think of themselves as a friendly and warm church. We provide a myriad of opportunities for fellowship, learning, and service. Take a few moments to explore a few of the various avenues for involvement for yourself and your family. Membership (click here for more information on how to join the church)You get the most out of life and out of your Christian walk when you get actively involved. We invite you to grow in Christ and His love for you through regular worship, daily prayer, Bible study and fellowship in small groups and in service to others. It's a time to get acquainted with our church, what it offers in its ministries, and to get acquainted with other newcomers as well. It is also an opportunity to learn what membership means at Central Union. Would you like to bring a guest? Yes! Just let us know, we're always happy to have lots of people come! Childcare is also available by request. And this is still a no-obligation way of getting acquainted with Central Union Church. Reservations requested: ron-ching@centralunionchurch.org. FellowshipGetting involved in a small group, in a Bible study class, such as the Alpha Course or Disciples, or in one of our choirs, or in a group like the 3-Ds (20s-30-40s) will immediately help to make our congregation friendlier for you.. Aloha LanaisOn Sundays after our 9:00 and 11:30 AM worship gatherings, we invite you to the respective Aloha Lanais for coffee and refreshments. You'll have an opportunity to meet others who are either members of the church, visitors, or some of our pastors. A host at our Welcome and Information Center (WIC) will be looking to warmly greet you, answer your questions about Central Union Church, and also to help you become acquainted with others. Information Folios are available from the WIC. We have a gift bag waiting for you, too! Yes, being in an new church can often be awkward; we seek to truly make our church visitor-friendly. Finding God in the Movies (Reel Spirituality)"Movie stories, when told well, stimulate our imagination and allow us to enter into another time and space. In the process they help us as viewers to translate our beliefs and values into an arena different from our own. Moviegoing can take our faith and put it in dialogue with life. Movies, particularly those that tell good stories, provide occasions for our spiritual growth, for our spirit's encounter with the Spirit." -- Barsotti and Johnston, FINDING GOD IN THE MOVIES. In their book, they lift up movies you've probably already seen (or wish to see), or never heard of, such as "Life is Beautiful," "Amistad," "No Man's Land," "Spirited Away," "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," "Big Night," "Fearless," "The Rookie," "Billy Elliot," "The Apostle," "The Hurricane," "Antwone Fisher," "Patch Adams, "Sister Act," and "Chocolat," among many. (Google the title to learn more about any of these movies.) But you can bet that these movies all affirm our humanity, focus on beauty, imagination and creativity, call us to choose life, embrace our vocations, reconcile, forgive, be friends and in community, love. And to see God. Time and place: usually second Saturday of the month, 5:30 p.m. (BYOB - Bring Your Own Bento) in the Adult Day Care Center on the church campus.
