THE DEACONS PROGRAM

The twelve apostles called the whole group of followers together and said,

"We should not give up preaching God's message in order to serve tables. My friends, choose seven men who are respected and wise and filled with God's Spirit. We will put them in charge of these things. We can spend our time praying and serving God by preaching."

-Acts 6:2-4

"Aloha from the deacons and deaconesses of Central Union Church! We're pleased to help serve our church community near and far. Our responsibilities are varied. You'll see us attending church services on Sundays, but that's not all we do.

  • "We visit the sick, shut-ins, and others in crisis
  • "We provide physical, spiritual, and material assistance for those in need, either directly, or with the assistance of other service agencies
  • "We assist with educating and assisting prospective members
  • "We help plan and oversee the church's ministry of service and caring for its members and the community
  • "We help resolve conflicts that arise within the church
  • "We assist in planning and arranging lay leadership for worship services
  • "We prepare and serve Communion
  • "We assist and attend baptisms and funerals
  • "We participate in the Deacon's theological scholarship and distance learning programs offered at Central Union Church.
  • "We attend monthly meetings of our boards and, where needed, serve on other church committees
  • "We participate in worship, prayer, and fellowship with other deacons and deaconesses

"Central Union Church's deacons and deaconesses are active, affirming, helpful, and ready to serve. We invite male and female members of the church to serve our respective boards that do so much good for so many in need. You help shape and mold the direction of our church as it moves ever forward in outreach to our church family and the larger community."

Do you feel a deeper calling to serve Christ? Please contact the church office at (808) 941-0957 or email us at cuc@centralunionchurch.org and schedule an appointment. Both our respective boards meet monthly for business and fellowship. Feel free to approach any deacon or deaconess, too, about joining us. You won't be disappointed! The lives you help touch will be brightened, and your talents and gifts will add joy and happiness to Central Union Church.
