Deacons

At-A-Glance

Mission/Vision Statement

The Deacons Ministry works closely with the church ministers. Our primary liturgical mission is to strengthen the church and its members. We provide a calm presence by listening, encouraging all with graciousness to our fellow church family members -reminding all who enter our doors that Central Union Church is a place where all are loved and cared for.

Who or What is this ministry directed to do?

At the communion observances the deacons with the deaconesses and ministers serve all who seek wholeness and fellowship with our Loving God. We visit the ill, shut-ins and others in times of crisis. We plan and provide pastoral care for our members and community, arrange lay leadership at worship, serve communion, attend baptisms and funerals. The deacons sponsor scholars through its Deacons Theological Scholarship Fund. We also greet church members and visitors each Sunday before services and coordinate scripture readers with the ministers and deaconesses.
