Charter of Worship and Evangelism Committee
I. Power and Authority - The Committee shall have the authority to act on behalf of the Council on day-to-day matters within the areas of the Committee’s responsibility. It shall report to the Council on noteworthy actions taken and refer to the Council for approval of matters which are significant or precedent setting.
II. Duties and Responsibilities - The committee shall be responsible for the following:
1. Supervise and support the programs of its assigned Ministries of Deacons, Deaconesses, Membership and Fellowship, Music, and Ushers.
2. Approve Ministry charters and review semi-annual reports of ministries.
3. Send a representative to the assigned Ministries meetings.
4. Help ensure that assigned Ministries’ have sufficient qualified members.
5. Approve routine matters in assigned Ministries’ areas of activity on behalf of the Council.
6. Report to the Council assigned Ministry matters of interest.
7. Refer to the Council and be an advocate on significant assigned Ministry matters requiring Council approval, including budgets.
8. Be a resource to the Staff for assigned Ministries, among other things helping ensure meaningful worship services, efficient dispensation of sacraments, and effective spiritual programs.
9. Oversee the areas of its responsibilities to ensure there is adequate and efficient, non-overlapping volunteer services.
10. Assist in greeting and making attendees feel comfortable at Church services and activities.
11. Do whatever else is reasonably necessary to foster and support Church activities within its areas of responsibility.
III. Operations – The Committee shall consist of the Chair of the Deacons, the Chair of the Deaconesses, and (3) At-large Council Members. The Chair of the Council and the Senior Minister shall be ex officio members of this Committee with voice but without vote. The Committee shall be chaired by the Chair of the Deacons or the Chair of the Deaconesses on an alternating yearly basis. The Committee shall meet every other month or at times as called by its Chair in consultation with its Members. A quorum shall consist of three (3) voting Members, and decisions will be made by majority vote with the Chair casting the deciding vote in case of a tie. Other Staff and Church Members may attend meetings, but may not speak unless specifically recognized by the Chair of the Committee.
