Historian

A hardworking, faithful cadre of volunteers keeps the Archives work going with consistent dedication.

Binding current issues of Church Council minutes, Spires and Sunday worship bulletins brings us up to date (and thank you to those who produce the publications for significantly cutting the number of pages, thus saving paper, binding materials and space).

Because requests for genealogical information from our records continues at a steady pace, and because this research takes time, we have been trying to create new systems - “finding aids” - to make research easier and faster. Rosemary has designed an Excel spreadsheet and is entering each member's name and information about that person, from the beginning of Central Union in 1887. After the first 1,000 entries, in order to go a bit faster, she switched to names only, the additional information to be added later, and now has more than 3,000, names, out of 15,000-plus. We are ordering a second computer (and have a second data entry volunteer at the ready) and the process should continue with twice the speed. (It may be time to think of digitizing at least some of the Central Union records.)
